‘Cuckoo Boat Sail’

Staveley near Chesterfield is rich in heritage from canal to coal mining but one thing is unique to the area, a barge with a sail. These boats known as cuckoo boats were designed and sailed by fearless ancestors of this incredible community. The boats used to sail from the canal on to the river Trent and out to sea.

Coralie worked with local school children and communities to help design the sculpture and make some small wildlife inspired mosaics for one side of the sculpture which has been installed in the new market place next to the new library.
