‘The Flood’
Stone, porcelain, steel
Coralie Turpin
Ulley Country Park
The commission was to respond to the flood that nearly shut down the M1 near Rotherham from the dam in Ulley Country Park.
Coralie researched the event, listened to accounts by eye witnesses and encouraged the full story to be relived which was incredibly emotional for people on the scene. The resulting design was carefully constructed to represent the Rotherham red rock, the intertwining yellow hoses from the fire engines and the cascading water.
Coralie also helped 5 schools and 6 community groups to make 14 smaller mosaics for the new performance area in Ulley Country Park.
Funding came from and A4e lottery bid applied for by the Friends of Ulley Country Park and Coralie gained sponsorship from Ardex UK.
The mosaics were officially unveiled by the mayor of Rotherham on 18th of April 2018.
